How has been 2019 for online gaming market in India?

2019 has seen some remarkable growth in the online gaming industry owing to the technological advancement and innovations, including the extensive application of AI and ML in the gaming industry. With huge investment opportunities coming in the market, the online gaming sector has seen rapid growth with several gaming startups becoming a part of the ecosystem.

Growing online poker popularity in India

The Poker industry had a fabulous run in 2019 with national and international players coming to India to participate in some of the leading poker tournaments. As far as Adda52 is concerned, the brand witnessed growth not just from metros but from tier 2, 3 cities too. Several factors added to this growth – launching integrated brand communication, introducing new poker variants alongside product feature on responsible gaming, creating unique and exciting campaigns for players during Diwali & December holidays, hosting the popular tournaments as DPT, WPT and so on. As a result, engagement rate and time spent on the site/app have increased which is a testimony of the growth of poker in the country.

As you joined Adda52 as a CEO last year, how has been your journey so far?

The state of online poker market in India is robust and improving year on year and it is indeed a privilege to be associated with the category leader in India – The brand has built a very respectable ecosystem of players and taking this ecosystem to the next level has been both exciting and challenging. Our endeavor was to continuously work towards developing new and interesting gaming formats & tournaments which has led to an increased brand trials and loyalty. The journey of promoting poker as an exciting mind sport is an ongoing and a motivating one.

What are the important new features that were added last year on Adda52?

a) As a brand, we are committed towards providing the best experience to our users. Since it is a game which can be continuously played, a feature called “Responsible Gaming” was introduced as part of the product, so that players can play responsibly.
b) We also came up with new poker game variants such as Holdem++, 5 Card PLO which saw great response from the poker community.
c) We also put a lot of effort in educating our new users through initiatives like poker school, new user journey and so on.

Any specific strategy you have planned for 2020

The direction of the business is always towards providing a safe and enriching environment for players to experience poker online. We intend to be more player-friendly and work towards “for the players, by the players” mantra.
